MINI’s ALL4 all-wheel drive system will now be made available in their Cooper Countryman and Cooper Paceman starting this summer. Previously the all-wheel drive was only available on turbocharged Cooper S model shown in the video above.

The ALL4 system will be available with both a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. MINI’s ALL4 system has an electromagnetic center differential which can vary torque distribution on the fly. When combined with the computer’s dynamic stability control, it can direct power to the wheels where maximum traction can be had.

ALL4 Countryman and Paceman will come with the base 122 horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. MINI says this engine will accelerate the ALL Countryman from 0-62 mph in as little as 11.7 seconds which is not fast, but we would call moderately adequate.

The additional of the ALL4 drive system to the Cooper Countryman and Paceman is an expansion of the line to offer a more price conscious and fuel efficient choice for consumers. Many wanted the traction capabilities for snow climates, but didn’t want the full Cooper S treatment.

Official EPA estimates are not yet released, but you can expect the numbers to fall a little over the front-wheel drive Cooper models. At current, adding the ALL4 system to the Cooper S drops its mpg figure by 1 mpg highway and in city. Thus the Cooper Countryman ALL4 should see about 26 mpg city and 34 mpg highway respectively.

The new MINI Cooper Countryman and Paceman ALL4 models go on sale in July and are likely available for reserve at your local MINI dealership now.
