For 2025 the Ford Maverick got a comprehensive freshening up that addressed most of what customers have been asking for in the way of features and powertrain improvement as well as as mild styling face lift inside and out.

For the Maverick XL base model that Ford says has “everything you need, and nothing you don’t”, the price conscious fan favorite continues for 2025. Best yet it gets almost all of the new features and powertrain upgrades the rest of the lineup enjoys. In other words, you don’t have to spend up into the higher trim grades to get all the new good stuff.

The price has gone up however since the Maverick was introduced for 2022. Instead of $19,995 plus destination fees, three years later the base 2025 Maverick XL with a standard FWD Hybrid powertain starts at $26,295.

New Powertrain Configurations

Notable however is that price increase for 2025 includes the Hybrid powertain now again standard equipment instead of an extra cost option like it was for 2024. The biggest but expected news is finally the offering of AWD with the Hybrid powertain – something people have been clamoring for since 2022.

For $2,220, the AWD Hybrid uses the same 2.5-liter Atkinson Cycle engine but has an upgraded two-motor hybrid transmission with a clutch actuated power take-off unit that sends power to the rear axle with a conventional drive shaft. Just like the FWD model it’s rated at 191 combined system horsepower.

Best yet even on the XL, you can select the 4,000 pound tow package along with your Hybrid powertrain, something we didn’t expect. Granted, it does cost because it comes bundled with the upgraded CoPilot 360 1.0 package so together it’s a $1,540 net add to the price which puts you at about $30,000 plus the $1,595 destination fee.

Also new for 2025 is that when you option the 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four cylinder engine with its 8-speed automatic, AWD is now standard. There is no more FWD EcoBoost available. This means there is a $1,020 price bump because you’re also paying for AWD. Horsepower for 2025 is down-rated slightly from last year, now 238 with 275 pound-feet if torque due to emissions related matters.

Better Behind The Wheel

The other big upgrade for 2025 that customers have been waving the pitch forks over is the standard infotainment system. Even on the base XL you get the new fully featured 13.2-inch fully integrated touchscreen user interface display.

Not only is it larger but now has the acclaimed SYNC 4 software and hardware back-end that is actually known to work well. It has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Sirius XM radio capability, a standard built-in 5G modem with hotspot, enhanced voice recognition and available is connected navigation. Nice.

Of note, the climate controls are largely moved up to the touchscreen, the collection of HVAC hard controls that used to reside on the center stack are no more. Instead is a simplified panel down below with mostly audio hard controls. Two kinds of USB ports are available down there too for power and connection to the 6-speaker audio system.

While the larger center infotainment screen affords the capability of a new 360-Degree Camera system it’s only available on high trim grades not here on the XL, nor can you get the upgraded B & O Audio system here.

The interior design, trims, and colors of a Navy Pier backdrop, gray accents and two tone Black Onyx seating trims are carried over from 2024. The seat upholstery fabrics have been changed up though and offer a different pattern. In front of the driver is a new 8-inch digital screen instrument cluster that allows greater customization of information displayed.

For 2025 the standard Co-Pilot 360 passive safety and driver-assist features on the XL now include a basic lane keeping aid in addition to automatic headlamps and high beam, single backup camera, and pre-collision braking assist.

You can upgrade to a Co-Pilot 360 1.0 system for $795 which adds power mirrors with blind-spot information system, reverse sensing with cross-traffic assist and braking, post collision braking and an enhanced lane keeping system. If you want adaptive cruise control, that’s still limited to Lariat trim grade and higher.

New Styling and Colors

On the exterior, modest styling updates are given to the 2025 Maverick including a new front bumper fascia and grille design. On the Maverick XL the plastics remain a flat patterned black but its standard LED headlamps now have a blacked out appearance. Lower rocker trim and the rear bumper fascia design along with all sheet metal however remain identical to 2022-2024 models.

The upshot there is that virtually all of the aftermarket accessories like cargo management, tonneau covers, toppers and other appearance items that have been compatible with the 2022-2024 Maverick will work just fine on the new 2025. The exception would be any appearance items for the front like custom grilles or headlights appliques – things like that.

Wheels and tires remain standard 17” steel with 225/65 R17 rubber. There is a mini spare located underneath unless upgraded to a larger “full size” steel wheel and 215/70 R17 conventional spare tire by stand alone option or via one of the option packages.

When it comes to paint shades, new for 2025 is the long asked for Eruption Green, Space White Metallic, and Velocity Blue. Carried over from 2024 are Shadow Black, Oxford White, Carbonized Gray Metallic, and Desert Sand. If you want the new Ruby Red Metallic or Azure Gray optional colors you will need to step up the trim grade ladder to XLT or above.

The 2025 Ford Maverick is available to order from your local Ford dealership as of the making of this video and is due to begin arriving in dealerships late in 2024.
