The first dedicated EV models from the brand’s E-GMP platform architecture, the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 arrives with some important updates along with a mild styling refresh to boot.
The Look
Styled much at its core like a 1980s classic 2-box hatch like the Volkswagen Rabbit or Dodge Omni, its shape is retro and iconic to start. Modern details however make it contemporary if not forward looking with its origami shapes and creases, textured details, and modern LED lighting effects front to rear.
For 2025 they updated the look with new front and rear fascias along with some revised textures on some trims, and new wheels designs. Our tester was the optional shade of Gravity Gold Matte which really looks like a metallic toned primer coat. It’s nice and artful though and adds to that contemporary vibe.
Updated Cabin
The dash and center console in the IONIQ 5 already had a modern mid-century theme with its wide expanse of LED screens. For 2026 they made the floating instrument-infotainment panel black instead of white which helps it become less obtrusive behind the wheel. The HVAC controls and center console also got a redesign that makes it more usable every day.
One of the most important updates was the next generation 12.3” infotainment system which now has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Seems odd it hadn’t come until now but there it is for us to connect without action. The rest of the interior is of good quality, comfort and design as it has been since the IONIQ 6 made its debut.
More Range
This year a battery update came with our system seeing a 84 kWh which extents the range to 269 miles for the Limited AWD tester we had. Charging takes around 7 hours on a Level 2 charger most people have at home, as fast as 20 minutes on a DC fast charger you might find at the hoity toity mall.
Most important to the charging and living with it every day experience is the new Tesla format NACS charge port. This means it can now charge up seamlessly at the expansive network of Tesla charging stations around the country.
Don’t worry though, it comes with two adapters that allow it to connect to both standard mainstream chargers and DC fast chargers. Bliss.
The Verdict
Since our first test of the IONIQ5 when it was released we are happy with the updates both visual and functional. Quality is good, the driving experience is good, and the $60,785 price of our our Limited AWD remains competitive with other similarly sized and equipped EVs.
The clincher that has it on our “Id Buy It List” is the style and value combination and the fact that it’s backed by one of the best warranties that exists with up to 10-years and 100,000 miles on powertrain.
