With the new naming scheme at BMW, the enthusiast prized 1 Series became the 2 Series as the brands smallest model is only available in a two door model. The 228i and M235i Coupe which arrived earlier this year have already become favorites.

Now BMW gives us the 2015 BMW 2 Series Convertible. To be available in the US as the 228i and M235i, the 2 Series Convertible combines the style and driving dynamics of the sharp witted 2 Series Coupe with the feeling of wind in your hair.

The styling of the 2 Series while evolutionary from the 1 Series before it is sleeker and has a less chunkier profile. Lines and curves are a bit less harsh in their application, silhouette is more flowing, and LED lighting is much more prevalent.

Standard is a power soft top which folds down low with a level finish wrapping around the passenger compartment with what BMW calls a “boat deck” look. The top lowers in about 20 seconds and comes in black and two new optional colors.

The Anthracite and Brown top colors have a silver effect, the fabric interwoven with fine reflective fibers. This gives a shimmering metallic surface which is sure to offer a rich look.

The cabin brings all the BMW goodness to fore which means a cockpit style place for the driver. High-quality materials genuine like leather, wood, and aluminum can be expected. The latest infotech is here too, have no doubt.

Of note is the the latest generation of BMW Connected Drive. The navigation system can now updated itself peridocally over the air, keeping destination and map information up to date. This and a number of other features will be part of a service which is free for the first three-years.

The 2-Series Convertible has grown slightly, but in all the right places. Trunk space is up by 9% with the opening into it wider. The opening between the trunk and passenger compartment with seats folded is larger by a good margin as well.

As hoped, you will be able to add packages like Sport Line even to the base 228i models, adding 18” wheels and sport suspension as well as a number of visual enhancements inside and out. There’s also M Sport also comes with its own unique trim and a more aggressive body package.

As if that weren’t enough you can also get the hot Track Handling Package which has the the Adaptive M Suspension, stickier Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires on special 18” wheels, Variable Sport Steering, and better M Sport Brakes.

Power comes from the same pair of engines that have won hearts in the 2-Series Coupe. The 228i gets a 240 horsepower 2.0 liter turbo-charged four-cylinder engine. With a healthy bit of torque at 266 lb-ft, the engine comes exclusively with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

BMW says the 228i Convertible will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds, just a short 3 tenths slower than the Coupe with same powertrain. The 8-speed auto includes steering wheel shift-paddles and a Launch Control program.

In a first BMW will offer the 228i Convertible will all-wheel drive. While heavier, that extra weight allows the 228i xDrive to shave a tenth off that 0-60 time to just 5.6 seconds. The default torque split is 70% rear/ 30% front.

The more powerful M235i Convertible gets BMW’s hallmark 320 horsepower 3.0 liter turbo-charged inline six, mated to either the 8-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. With 330 lb-ft of torque, the engine can press your back well into the seat with a smoothness and sound few engines can.

BMW says the automatic is the quicker of the two, accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 4.8 seconds, the manual model achieving it in 5 seconds flat. Top speed on both Convertible models will be limited to 155 mph.

New safety and driver assistance technologies will be available in the Driver Assistance Plus package. The camera-based system features Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warnings as well as the Attention Assistant.

The all new 2015 BMW 2 Series Convertible will make its North American debut at the 2014 Los Angeles International Auto Show in December and arrives in our dealer showrooms early in 2015.

The 2015 BMW 2 Series Convertible will begin at an MSRP of $38,850 for the 228i, $40,650 for the 228i xDrive, $48,650 for the M235i, including $950 destination and handling.
