The media days of the 2016 Chicago Auto Show have come and gone, the big takeaway this year being that trucks remain big here in the US of A. Pickups headlined most of the major automaker reveals this year and we’ve got a full look at all of them.

We’ve seen the new Nissan Titan XD, but until now Nissan has been tight lipped about the slightly smaller half-ton versions of the new truck. At the show they released a photo bomb of the new crew cab Titan, showing a slightly lower nose up front and the shorter 5.5′ bed.

The half-ton Titan will be available in three cabs and three bed lengths – all sharing the same 139-inch wheelbase. This makes it about 14-inches shorter than the Titan XD crew cab. It’s also an inch lower to the ground.

The half-ton Titan will come with two engines starting with the same 5.6-liter Endurance V8 just introduced in the new Armada SUV. That has 390 horsepower and comes with a 7-speed automatic transmission. A V6 will be available, with details yet to be released.

They will be showing us the full Monty on this later this spring and by the way, for a full run down on that new 2017 Nissan Armada, see the information section below for our Chicago Auto Show playlist where there’s a full feature on it.

Chevrolet was on deck at Chicago too, unveiling their 2016 Midnight Editions of all three of their pickups from the Colorado up through the Silverado HD.

The midnight special editions are all black inside and out with special wheels and other step up trims that give them all a mean and menacing appearance. The package is available on the 2016 Colorado Z71 and both the the Silverado 1500 and 2500 HD Z71 exclusively.

Package highlights include a body-colored grille, bumper, headlamp trims, and tow hooks. Side and beltline moldings are black as are its alloy wheels. The look finishes up with unique Z71 badges, a spray-in bedliner, and black bowties all around.

These are the only trucks in our show today that are available at your dealership almost immediately with now waiting.

On the other side of McCormick Place RAM Truck showed they are on the move with a couple of introductions that establish them well into the off-roading realm. The big one was the new RAM 2500 Power Wagon which we have a separate feature video on down in our playlist. But it wasn’t the only truck they unveiled.

The RAM 2500 series pickups also got their own 4×4 Off-Road Package that you can compare to Chevrolet’s Z-71 and Ford’s FX4, offering a basic level of upgrade for suspension, tires and traction for all models from Tradesman up to the top-end.

The package comes with and upgraded suspension featuring Billstein off-road shocks and better rubber in the Firestone LT series on and off-road tires. A limited slip differential at the rear axle helps keep them at their job.

The package rounds out with a transfer case skid plate, standard Hill-decent Control, and most importantly there’s the “4X4 OFF ROAD” graphic prominently displayed on both sides of the bed to let them know what you got.

The RAM 2500 HD 4×4 off-Road Package will be available on all 2017 models and up later this fall.

Last but certainly not least, Toyota had likely one of the most popular unveils this year at Chicago in their new 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro Off-Roader.

We have a complete feature video on this all of its own. That and the rest can be seen by clicking on the link below for our complete Chicago Auto Show playlist. There’s a lot of good stuff there.
