Just ahead of the Detroit Auto Show RAM unveiled their next special edition of the popular Rebel off-road pickup, the “Black”.

Just on the heels of revealing the Mojave Sand special edition RAM 1500 Rebel at the Los Angeles Auto Show last fall, RAM is showing us a second special color scheme package for the Rebel they simply call Black.

And why not? Black is the new black after all. The package does all the expected things for appearance starting with satin black versions of the Rebel’s 17-inch alloy wheels mounted with its 33-inch Toyo Open Country A/T all-terrain tires.

The headlamps and the unique grille are already blacked out on the Rebel, as are the outboard sections of its powder-coated off-road specific front bumper with integrated LED fog lights. With the Black, the lower skid plate however gets a satin black finish to make it all more monotone.

At the rear, Rebel Black uses the same satin black super-sized RAM lettering that matches its satin black emblems all around. The rear bumper too is satin black. Surprisingly though, the exhaust tips remain chrome, the only elements on the truck not blacked out.

Inside, the Rebel Black loses the red anodized bezels and and red accent stitching. Instead, the trim pieces around the vents, the gauge rings and the rest of the cabin are of an anodized black finish just like those found in the Mojave Sand edition.

Seat trims are all black with “Rebel” embroidery and the tire print as in the normal Ram Rebel but use gray accent stitching instead of red. If you want more you can option it with unique black leather Katzkin seat upholstery.

It also comes with special rubber floor mats to keep your carpet clean when you get dirty.

Special editions are often over-hyped for what little they are in terms of tangible goods. You have some special finishes, special colors and a few extra touches with nothing in the way of performance oriented changes.

Here I think the Ram 1500 Rebel Black is a home run because it does offer something I have already seen current Rebel owners doing to their trucks after the purchase. In black especially, it certainly looks nice and mean.

But if you aren’t into a black vehicle, the Ram 1500 Rebel Black special edition is available in all Rebel colors, not just black. You can get it in crew cab only but you get the choice of either a 5.7-liter V8 or the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. No EcoDiesel is yet offered here unfortunately.

Pricing starts at $45,590 for the RAM 1500 Rebel Black which will arrive at your local dealer starting in March of this year.
