You know it had to happen sooner or later and here it is, the active lifestyle oriented Toyota RAV4 Adventure dialed in and set up for the kayak, hiking, camping and mountain goat set. This means a lot of appearance duds and yes even a few mechanical tweaks to back them up for a RAV4 with the hairiest chest ever.

When it comes to style, Toyota took a page from Jeep and added a flat black hood graphic that will surely pop best on the brighter colors available. The front-end is also enhanced with blacked out headlights and fog lamp surrounds to mean it up just a notch.

Down the side you’ll notice a pretty substantial looking lower rocker trim piece with a more rugged look expected of an off-roader. This is combined with blacked out roof racks up on top and a set of gloss black 18-inch alloy wheels. Toyota finishes off the stylistic ovations with special Adventure badging at the rear decklid.

The interior is also amped up just a bit with features like special finishes on the dash, door panel and door trims a bit sportier in nature. A leather-wrapped steering wheel and unique floor mats and door sills feature Adventure logos. At the rear cargo area, a 120V 100-watt power outlet is added as well.

It’s not all about looks however. While it is available in front-wheel drive as standard, that model will have an automatic limited-slip differential. If you step up to all-wheel drive you of course get the best of what Toyota offers in the RAV4 with its brake actuated torque vectoring.

In both versions you get a standard towing package that does increase its capability with extra ratioator capacity, and additional coolers for the engine oile and transmission fluid. The suspension too is retuned with a higher ride height than in the standard RAV4.

With that you get the full suite of stability control software that suppliments the towing capability with trailer sway control, hill-start assist, and now standard on all Toyota RAV4 models the Toyota Safety Sense package or TSS-P.

The 2018 RAV4 Adventure is limited to a smaller palette of colors than the rest of the trim grades to keep it exclusive. These are Black, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Silver Sky Metallic, Super White, and one new color for RAV4 this year, the Ruby Flare Pearl you see here.

New options for 2018 will include heated and power adjustable cloth front seats, a heated steering wheel, and wiper de-icer – all part of a new Cold Weather Package. All 2018 RAV4 models and the new Adventure arrive at Toyota dealers this fall with pricing to be announced closer to that time.
