As 2022 is supposed to be the last year of the current S550 generation Ford Mustang, new special-editions and packages are added for both EcoBoost and 5.0 V8 fans to keep the fires burning until the all-new Mustang arrives for 2023.

Starting with the 310 horsepower 2.3-liter EcoBoost Mustang, Ford’s new “Stealth” theme first seen on the new 2022 Expedition is now available on the pony car. The Stealth Edition Appearance Package isn’t breaking any new ground but is a popular look with a more menacing blacked out trim statement and accoutrements.

A nice 180-degree choice from the new Ice White package announced earlier this summer, the Stealth Edition Appearance Package features gets 19-inch black alloy wheels, black emblems all around, Blacked out finishes also apply to the mirror caps and rear spoiler. Also added are the same slick clear LED tail lamps found on the new Ice White edition.

Stealth Edition Appearance Package is based on the Mustang Premium so it gets all the same upgraded interior trims but adds a unique matte and gloss black badging and lighted sill plate. Limited colors for the Stealth include Atlas Blue, Carbonized Gray, Dark Matter and Shadow Black.

Those wanting the California Special GT/CS will will now for the first time be able to add some extra performance to the mix with the GT Performance Package. Checking the box upgrades you to Brembo six-piston front brake calipers, a tighter lowered suspension and re-calibrated electric power steering rack.

Chassis mods include a K-brace, strut tower brace, and front sub-frame V-brace. A TORSEN limited-slip differential keeps your power flowing in a more manageable way while larger staggered 19×9 and 19×9.5-inch wheels with Pirelli summer rubber add more grip.

Like the Stealth Package, the 2022 GT/CS is based on the Premium grade but here the 5.0-liter V8 powered V8 fastback and convertible. You get all the expected California Special swag as in previous years including a “GT/CS” side stripe graphic and trademark “C” scoop design element on the rear quarter.

Unique styling touches continue with a black and red decklid badge and GT/CS badge on the special honeycomb grille. Below that is the larger front splitter from the GT Performance Package even if you don’t option that package on your GT/CS. Standard wheels are a unique 19-inch alloy.

Inside are Miko suede door panel trims and seat inserts with leather boundaries that have the expected embossed “GT/CS” logos. Lots of red accent stitching flows and the dash gets a unique “carbon hex” applique and California Special Script. It’s all finished out with embroidered “GT/CS” floor mats.

California Special is available in most 2022 colors including Atlas Blue, Carbonized Gray, Cyber Orange, Dark Matter, Grabber Blue Metallic, Iconic Silver, Rapid Red, Shadow Black and Oxford White.

You will be able to start ordering the 2022 Mustangs and the new models here later this year with the first 2022 models arriving later than usual in the first quarter of next year.
