For 2024 the Ford F-150 got a number of changes and updates that bring new styling like an upgraded grille, LED headlights, and redesigned tail lights. There’s more standard features inside and out too but the big news is the simplified model, option and powertrain offerings that really change the game for the XL base model.
With the goal of slashing the number available order combinations some 90% they had to get rid of a lot of stand alone options, a few packages, and make a lot more stuff standard. That might make some a little sad who like specific customization of their build but there’s a big bonus in the mix – more standard horsepower than ever before.
On most XL models, the previously optional 325 horsepower 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 is now standard equipment with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The old 3.3-liter standard V6 is history. But that’s not all, depending on what cab and bed combination you get, the 5.0-liter V8 is now the default standard engine.
So, drum roll….for a starting price of $36,570, the 2024 F150 Standard Cab short bed pickup comes standard and exclusively with the rip snorting 400 horsepower 5.0-liter Coyote V8 featuring port and direct fuel injection and a 10-speed automatic transmission. That power gets to the ground through a standard automatic locking rear differential with a 3.73:1 ratio whether you get a 4×2 or 4×4.
Talk about a sleeper muscle truck! At this price, this puts standard V8 sport truck muscle in your hands for about $8,000 less than a Mustang GT automatic. It is indeed more basic, but for 2024 they have added a lot more standard stuff on the XL to make it more livable as offered.
For one, the interior now has a standard 12-inch SYNC 4 touchscreen infotainment system that includes 5G LTE connectivity, cloud navigation, Sirius XM capability, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and more. There’s also now a standard 12-inch digital instrument cluster too.
The rest of the cabin is still basic with slightly updated trims for 2024 available with gray cloth or vinyl seating and a rubber hose out floor. Full carpeting is not showing as an option anymore but cruise control, power windows and door locks are standard. Out back a Class IV trailer hitch is now standard equipment and there are now handy bed storage boxes found behind each one of the rear wheel wells.
Exterior details are basic too sporting 17-inch steelies mounted with 245/70R 17 tires. If you want more, there is one upgrade package. For $1000 you can step up to the XL High and you get 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome bumpers, LED fog lights, and a dark tinted rear window with electric defogger. Additionally if you add four-wheel drive you get tow hooks and a graphic at the rear quarter.
The standard 5.0-liter V8 on F-150 XL only applies to the 122-inch wheelbase standard cab short bed base model or the crew cab 157-inch wheelbase with a 6.5-foot bed. All other variations of SuperCab and CrewCab get the 2.7-liter EcoBoost standard with either the 5.0-liter V8 or 3.5-liter EcoBoost optional.
Color choices are pretty limited for XL including all the standard and expected white, silver, charcoal and black. If you want color you can have any shade you want as long as it’s blue. Ordering for the 2024 Ford F-150 lineup is now open. Pricing starts at $36,570 or rather $38,565 when you include the $1,995 delivery and destination fees.
