For 2024 model year, the iconic Jeep Wrangler JL got it’s first major refresh of styling, features and updates that made their debut at the New York Auto Show. While evolutionary, the changes and adds substantially build on the legendary capability and character Jeep enthusiasts have come to love.
The first and most visible change is a slight update to styling right up front. A new take on the seven slot grille brings a recessed element behind the slots themselves that give it a more complex and nuanced look. The grille work will come in a variety of trim and color combinations depending on the model Wrangler chosen.
Also a new “stealth” radio antenna is now integrated into the windshield to eliminate the issue of well, the antenna getting in the way. In addition there are 10 new wheel designs, from 17 to 20-inches in diameter and including beadlock-capable wheels an Xtreme 35 Package.
Next of the major headlines is a redesigned dash to include space for an all-new 5th generation Uconnect 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Available with all the latest greatest connectivity features expected today, it’s also capable with the The Trails Offroad catalog which can give you detailed information on several well established off-road trails.
The rest of the interior gets a number of trim and detail upgrades to improve quality and comfort including a new 12-way power seat that can get wet without shorting out and side-curtain airbags.
Going to the mechanical, powertrains are all carryover from 2023 from the base 2.0-liter turbo to the 4xe plug-in hybrid, the 3.6-liter V6 and the top dog 6.4-liter V-8.
A few things new though. Wrangler Rubicon models feature new Dana 44 HD full float solid rear axle that allows for safer up-sizing of tires and wheels. Available too is a 100:1 crawl ratio, a factory-installed 8,000-pound capacity Warn winch and increased 5,000-pound tow capability. A new Rubicon X trim for 2.0 and 3.6-liter engines comes with standard 35-inch tires, integrated off-road camera and steel bumpers.
On the plug-in hybrid 4xe model, a new lower entry price point will come with the Sport S now available. The 4xe also now offers Jeep 4xe Power Box, which has four 120-volt outlets with 30 amps of total output, allowing the battery pack to power a campsite, tailgate party or more.
For Wrangler Willys fans, the 2024 model gets a standard Tru-Lok rear locker, steel rock rails at the side, the trailer tow and heavy-duty electrical group, and larger 33-inch tires and with the Selec-Trac full-time transfer case with a 4LO ratio of 2.72:1.
There are a great many other packaging and option details added for 2024 including new top configurations such as the power canvas ragtop. Too much to list here. But the top line is that it will be available in all the known trim grades Sport, Willys, Sahara, High Altitude, Rubicon and Rubicon 392.
