Getting out ahead of the also freshened up 2023 Ford Super Duty by a day, the new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD series was unveiled showing off a number of key improvements to keep it competitive in the shadow of its competitor from the Blue Oval.
The 2024 Silverado HD like now will be is available in 2500 and 3500 grades in all of the familiar trim grades and will be joined by an off-road ZR2 trim package for the first time – only teased to us for now with a grille shot.
Getting right to the rest of the shots, the 2024 Silverado HD gets a number of styling updates up front including new headlights, grille, and fascia treatments. The headlamps feature a sharp and aggressive LED C-shaped element and the design and complexity changes up from trim to trim.
On models with a hood scoop, CHEVROLET lettering sprawls across. Standard are tow hooks and still here are the GM favorite corner steps at the rear bumper and bed steps. Still available is Multi-Flex tailgate available with power operation.
Wheel sizes will range from a standard 17-inch steel rim on Work Truck, to 18-inch polished aluminum wheels available for dually models and up to 20-inch alloys for other top trims.
The interior gets all the updates from the Silverado 1500 from LT trim and up including the all-new high-feature dash and redesigned center console. The sweeping layout features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster display and 13.4-inch infotainment system display. A head-up display is available too.
Interior materials are upgraded substantially across the trim grades offering combinations of leather and genuine wood trims on the top models including High Country.
For 2024 the Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8 gets a bump in output to 470 hp and 975 pound-feet of torque. A retune and tweak boots low-end torque up to 25%. The 6.6-liter gasoline V8 continues with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque.
Big news really is that the 10-speed automatic transmission gives the marketing name “Allison” to is now standard for both the gas and diesel engines. The gas V8 gets most of the benefit now able to hit its power peak four more times in the speed climb which pays dividends for towing, hauling, efficiency and drivability. The gas engine’s GCWR increases to 26,000 pounds, up from 24,000 pounds as a result.
Towing is enhanced too. Available are up to 14 unique camera views such as HD Surround Vision and Bed View. A max tow package is now available across all Silverado 2500 trims, raising the maximum towing capacity to 22,500 pounds for the Duramax.
Production of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD starts in the first quarter of 2023 at both the Flint assembly plant in Michigan and at the Oshawa assembly in plant Canada. Pricing, specs and more on that new ZR2 will be available closer to launch time next spring.
